Pancreatic cancer mortality is relatively high in countries with high fat consumption. Furthermore, the high fat content in the diets of laboratory animals promotes the development of artificially chemically induced tumors. A better understanding of how fat affects tumor growth could therefore provide a starting point for preventing pancreatic cancer through a healthy diet. Not only the amount of fat but the type of fat also appears to play a role in the development of pancreatic cancer.

Differences in sources of fat consumption are associated with differences in human cancer incidence. These changes appear to be caused by differences in the polyunsaturated mobile number list portion of the fat. The position of the first double bond in the polyunsaturated fatty acid carbon chain determines which type it belongs to. The third bond in fatty acids is a double bond. They usually come from fish.
